New Hampshire Non-Resident Pistol/Revolver License

Issued by the New Hampshire State Police Permits and Licensing Unit. Massachusetts residents apply as non-residents — you do not need to live in New Hampshire.

  • New Hampshire is a permitless-carry state, so the license is not required to carry there — it is worth holding because other states honour it.
  • Non-resident applications go to the State Police rather than a local department.
  • Expect to supply references and a reason for carrying on the form.

Do I have to live in New Hampshire?
No — that's what a non-resident permit is for. Massachusetts residents apply to the New Hampshire State Police Permits and Licensing Unit as non-residents.
Does the class give me the permit?
No. The class satisfies the training requirement. You then apply to the New Hampshire State Police Permits and Licensing Unit yourself, and they decide.
Do I need my Massachusetts license first?
For some states, yes — several require a home-state license before issuing a non-resident permit. The Multi course covers Massachusetts and New Hampshire in one sitting, so you can pursue both.
Do I have to apply for all six?
No. Take the class once, then apply only for the states you actually need.
How long does it take?
