Can I carry in New York with a Massachusetts license?

No. No — New York does not honour the licenses from our Multi course, and it does not recognise a Massachusetts LTC.

The detail

What New York honours.

  • Multi course licenses: not honoured. New York does not recognise any of the six licenses (MA, ME, NH, CT, PA, FL). You would need New York's own permit, and some states issue none to non-residents.
  • A Massachusetts LTC on its own is recognised by far fewer states than the six-license bundle. If you only hold a MA LTC, confirm New York's current position with New York's licensing authority before you travel.
  • Reciprocity changes. This page reflects the map we teach from and is reviewed regularly; the state's own published list is the final word.
Applying is your step. Each state license is applied for separately with that state's authority. The class is the training all six require first.

Does the Multi course give me a New York license?
No. New York does not honour any of the six licenses. The class still covers the MA and 38 other states (MA + 38 others) that do.
Do I need to live in Massachusetts to take the class?
No. Many students drive in from New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut and beyond for the six-license bundle. Non-residents apply for the MA license through the Firearms Records Bureau.
How long is the class?
Four to five hours, for both the Basic and the 39 State Multi. One visit either way, live fire included — about the same four to five hours, for five more states of law.
