Two Gloucester Shops Robbed in Two Days, One at Mid-Morning
In one July weekend, a Gloucester sub shop was robbed by a man with a machete and a gas station by a man with a gun, back-to-back days.

The next morning at 10:47, a man robbed the Speedway gas station on Main Street, displaying a firearm and demanding money and cigarettes from an employee before running off.
No injuries were reported in either robbery. The second suspect was described as a white male, about 5-foot-7 with a slim build, his face covered by a black bandana.
Gloucester's police chief said investigators could not definitively say whether the two robberies were connected, and the department asked the public for help identifying those responsible. Two armed robberies inside 19 hours was a jolt for a harbor city where workers and tourists fill those same blocks all summer.

A sub shop on a Sunday afternoon and a gas station on a Monday morning, in July, in Gloucester, streets full of beach traffic, fried-clam lines, and people gassing up the boat. Small-city New England feels exempt from this kind of thing, and mostly it is. "Mostly" is the operative word: the employees behind those two counters got no notice that their ordinary shift was the exception.
