Arrive at Boston Firearms

Come ready to have fun. We include all the equipment. Photo ID and closed-toe shoes — that is the entire packing list. Everything else is already waiting on the bench.

Train with a real firearm

Grip, stance, load, unload, prove it clear — hands on from the start, with the instructor's hands within reach of yours. We train you to handle a firearm safely before you fire one.

Dedicated lane just for you

No waiting behind a stranger, no crowd watching you learn. The lane, the lamp and the target carrier are yours for the session.

Live fire — one round at a time

First round loaded alone, instructor at your shoulder. One shot at a time until the flinch is gone — then you watch a group start to form on the paper.

Do I need a gun license for this?
No. Massachusetts permits an unlicensed person to shoot under the direct supervision of an instructor, and that is exactly how this session runs — the instructor is behind you for every round. Bring a photo ID. The license question only matters if you later decide you want to carry.
Is this the class I need for a license?
No — and it doesn't pretend to be. Intro To Shooting is the low-commitment way to find out whether you want one. The license class is a separate four to five hour course, $249, with live fire included — after it, you apply through your own police department.
What will I actually shoot?
A real pistol, provided by us, with ammunition included, on your own lane of our indoor range. No simulators and no plastic trainers — the whole point is finding out what the real thing feels like.
How old do I have to be?
You must be 18 or over to shoot without a parent present. Under 18 is welcome with a parent there for the session. Bring a photo ID either way — we check it at the counter.
What should I wear?
No tank tops or shirts where the brass could fall down your shirt, and no sandals.
Is the included ammunition enough?
For a first session, plenty: enough to get past the flinch, watch a group form on the paper, and finish with an honest answer about whether you want more. If you want longer on the line, you can extend the session on the day.
