At Midnight in Chicopee, a Stranger Tried to Get Into Their Car
People sitting in their car at a Chicopee Street gas station had a stranger try to force his way in around midnight. Their shouts brought help fast.

Outside, he tried to get into a vehicle that was occupied. The people inside did the single most effective thing available to them: they screamed for help, loudly, until attention turned their way.
Police arrived, located the suspect at the scene, and arrested him. He was charged with armed carjacking and shoplifting, police said. No one was reported hurt.

A late-night gas stop is one of those errands everyone makes without thinking, the tank is low, the station is lit, you're three minutes from home. The people in that car weren't targeted for anything they did. They were just parked in the wrong sixty seconds. What saved the moment was noise and attention, and a suspect who gave up when the situation stopped being easy.
The reality most of us never see coming.

What we tell our students.
This one ended the way we hope every incident ends: no one hurt, help arrived, and the victims' own voices did the heavy lifting. Our instructors teach exactly that order of operations. Awareness first, avoidance and noise and distance next. A firearm sits at the very end of that list, and most incidents never get there.
