Four UMass Students Were Robbed Steps From Their Apartments
Two men, one in a ski mask, confronted four UMass Amherst students in a campus parking lot on a January night in 2024 and demanded their money and IDs.

The men demanded the students' driver's licenses and money, then fled on foot. None of the students were hurt. The students reported it to UMass and Amherst police shortly afterward, and the campus community was alerted by email.
The suspects were not immediately found, and UMass police asked anyone with information to come forward. Students interviewed afterward told Western Mass News the incident was alarming precisely because the lot sits steps from where they live.

Every parent who has dropped a kid off at college knows that parking lot, it's the one between the building and the car, crossed a dozen times a week without a thought. A campus at 8 p.m. on a Friday is about as ordinary as American life gets. The students did the right things: they complied, got safe, and called it in immediately. Nobody was hurt.
