The permit

Florida Non-Resident Concealed Weapon License

Issued by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Massachusetts residents apply as non-residents — you do not need to live in Florida.

  • Florida issues non-resident licenses to applicants who are not Florida residents, which is the whole point for a Massachusetts holder.
  • Applications are made by mail or in person to the state department that administers the programme; a passport-style photo and fingerprints are part of the package.
  • Florida requires proof of firearms training — the class you take here is what satisfies that.
  • Reach: Widely honoured across the South, Midwest and Mountain West.
Applying is your step. We teach the class that satisfies the training requirement. The application itself goes to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services — we're not part of it and we don't file it for you.

Do I have to live in Florida?
No — that's what a non-resident permit is for. Massachusetts residents apply to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services as non-residents.
Does the class give me the permit?
No. The class satisfies the training requirement. You then apply to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services yourself, and they decide.
Do I need my Massachusetts license first?
For some states, yes — several require a home-state license before issuing a non-resident permit. The Multi course covers Massachusetts and Florida in one sitting, so you can pursue both.
Do I have to apply for all six?
No. Take the class once, then apply only for the states you actually need.
How long does it take?
State-dependent, and generally slower than a Massachusetts application. Start well before a trip you're planning around it.
