A String of Break-Ins Put Allston on Edge for Weeks
Break-ins hit seven Allston-Brighton streets in a few weeks in 2023 — through unlocked doors, open windows, even removed AC units. One suspect was found inside a home.
Scene imagery is illustrative — not the actual locationIn the spring of 2023, Boston Police fielded break-in calls along seven different streets in Allston-Brighton over several weeks, according to WBZ. Most happened between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. The pattern was simple: someone slipped in through an unsecured door or window. In some cases, the burglar removed a window air conditioning unit to get inside.
One couple returned from vacation to find their second-floor Chester Street apartment ransacked. Cash and a designer wallet were among the items taken in the string of incidents.
On the evening of May 30, officers answering a call about a suspicious person on Oakland Street found a man inside a residence, with an open window nearby and a bedroom door locked from the inside. A 45-year-old man was arrested. Police said at the time they were not sure whether he was connected to the other burglaries in the area.

Allston runs on rentals — old triple-deckers, window AC units, roommates coming and going at all hours. A window unit is just summer in this neighborhood. Nobody thinks of it as a removable panel into their bedroom until a story like this makes the rounds.
